David Tan has expressed his willingness to let others take over his business, but it seems that the deal does not involve him continuing to manage it.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the owner of Authentic Mun Chee Kee King of Pig’s Organ Soup declined an offer of over $500,000 because he desires to retire.
After news of the closure spread, the 60-year-old received at least five offers for his stall from both individuals and companies.
"Some offered me more than $500,000 but with the condition that I stay and work for one or two more years," he shared, mentioning that some even proposed for him to expand the business.
"I want to retire, so I turned down all offers."
Following the closure of his eatery that he has been operating for the past 15 years, David plans to embark on a road trip across China and South America.
A loyal customer named Huang mentioned that she visited the stall on its last day after hearing the news.
"Though I feel sad to see it go, I am glad that the owner can retire early," the 35-year-old expressed.
Another customer, Zeng, shared that she and her husband have been dining at the restaurant for the past decade.
"Even though we were unaware that it was the final day of business, we are grateful for the meals we had here."
After relocating to its current address in 2024, Authentic Mun Chee Kee Pig's Organ Soup experienced a 35% drop in business and escalating operating costs.
"This realization led me to understand that it might be time to move on and engage in other activities," he informed 8world.
The eatery first opened at 207 Jalan Besar in 2011 but moved to 65 Maude Road in 2024 due to authorities finding the kitchen wall at risk of collapsing.
